BC Shellfish and Seafood Festival Celebrates the Salish Sea

Comox, BC – This week, seafood buyers, media and consumers will get behind-the-scenes access to our seafood industry through a variety of tours, including: Manatee Holdings Shellfish Hatchery tour, Salish Sea Foods tour, Deep Water Oyster Farm tour, Fanny Bay Oyster Farm tour and Salmon Farm tour.

After a day of touring, delegates will enjoy world-class seafood dinners – Shell, Sips and Seafood Tuesday evening at Prime Chophouse & Wine Bar, K’ómoks Estuary Seafood Dinner and the Locals Restaurant on Wednesday, as well as the anticipated BC Shellfish Growers Association Gala Dinner on Friday at the Filberg Heritage Lodge & Park.

The BC Seafood and Shellfish Festival is celebrating its 10th year with the biggest event ever. This event also recognizes the start of BC Seafood Month across the province. You can except to see more BC seafood on your plate at restaurants and in grocery stores, including IGA, Country Grocer and a variety of other chains on both Vancouver Island and the Mainland.

Cascadia Liquor stores across the Island are holding a BC Seafood on Your Plate Tasting Series during which regional wine experts will be onsite to teach consumers how to pair BC wines and fresh BC seafood with samples that will be showcased during the BC Shellfish and Seafood Festival.

Featured events this week include the Jellyfish Project, an educational presentation and performance on ocean sustainability, held on June 14 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Sid Williams Theatre.
