Canada’s top oyster-producing region to host upcoming seafood festival

The 13th annual BC Seafood Festival is scheduled to take place in Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, Canada, from 7 to 16 June, 2019, event organizers confirmed on 15 April.

The event, considered to be the largest seafood festival in Western Canada, will once again be situated in the Comox Valley region, the top production area for oysters in Canada. Festival features for 2019 include the “Signature Weekend,” comprised of celebrity chef demonstrations, award-winning shellfish and seafood tastings, interactive and educational displays, and competitions.

The festival will also host a series of seafood-related contests such as the Fanny Bay Oyster Shucking Competition, the Best Caesar in Town, the annual Chowder Challenge, and the BC Seafood Festival Chef Challenge, presented by Garland Canada and FortisBC.

Nathan Fong, the chef producer of the BC Seafood Festival, will headline an broad lineup of chefs and mixologists for this year’s event. Fong has been an award-winning food stylist for print and film advertising for the past 30 years and is an internationally published food and travel journalist, contributing to an array of publications such as Global BCTV, The Vancouver Sun, Taste Magazine, Enroute, Bon Appetit, Fine Cooking, Cooking Light, Men’s Health UK, and NUVO. He currently hosts a weekly radio show, Fong on Food, on Vancouver’s Roundhouse Radio, and serves as the chair of the B.C. Board representing the Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC). He’s also the chef for the B.C. government.

As of 12 April, Limited Release Signature Day-Pass options have been made available for the festival. Tickets are CAD 15.00 (USD 11.21, EUR 9.97) per day, the Weekend Pass is CAD 25 (USD 18.69, EUR 16.62), and the Weekend Pass with food vouchers is CAD 70 (USD 52.33, EUR 46.54), the Comox Valley Economic Development and Tourism office confirmed.
