A weekend of seafood-related events, competitions and demos in the Comox Valley.

B.C. Seafood Festival

The 13-year-old B.C. Seafood Festival gets better by the year. It runs from June 14-16 at Filberg Lodge and Park in Comox, although ocean-related events and tours start June 7. Highlights include chef competitions (this year that includes a junior-chef challenge for kids between eight and 12); food-tasting stations; the largest happy-hour oyster bar in Canada; a seafood boil; a seafood brunch; chowder and Caesar-cocktail competitions; a ceviche master class, as well as a signature gala dinner with a lineup of chefs cooking at stations.

Chefs from Vancouver and other regions will join local chefs in the tasting stations and competitions and include Lee Cooper (L’Abattoir, Coquille); Ricardo Valverde (Ancora); Bobby Milheron (West); Morgan Wilson (Fairmont Empress Hotel); Eva Chin (Boulevard Kitchen and Oyster Bar); Isabel Chung and Derek Bendig (Fairmont Chateau Whistler); Hamid Salimian (Culinary Team Canada chef); and Ned Bell (Ocean Wise).
