The sounds of the ’80s are set to take over Marina Park in Comox in June, as Comox Valley Rocks for Kids is set to crank out the tunes for a good cause.
Organizer Shawn Vincent, along with music producer Brian Howes are teaming up to present a day-long concert of “high-end tribute bands, with the theme of the ’80s, along with a reunion of Young Guns, Brian’s first band,” explained Vincent, during a presentation to Comox council Wednesday.
He noted the concert – set for June 9 – will be part of the BC Shellfish & Seafood Festival, and proceeds will be donated to the Comox Valley Child Development Association.
Joanne Schroeder, executive director of the CVCDA said the partnership is a great opportunity for the organization.
“We just embarked on a building project – the Autism Centre of Excellence – which will be linked to the provincial networks. Funds raised help us realize the completion of the project.”
She added there are more than 200 children diagnosed with autism in the Comox Valley.
Vincent explained the concert, which will run from 3-11 p.m., will be “very respectful of the community,” and will have the stage facing the water to minimize sound.
Ticket sales recently launched, with early bird adult tickets priced at $20 ($25 regular price); youth at $15, and those under 12 are free.
He added there will also be a VIP section for $99, which will feature dinner, drinks and blankets for rent which will later be donated to Dawn to Dawn: Action on Homelessness Society.
