West Restaurant’s Bobby Milheron Wins B.C. Seafood Festival Chef Challenge
June 26, 2019
VANCOUVER — West Restaurant + Bar’s executive chef Bobby Milheron was recently crowned B.C. Seafood Festival Chef Challenge champion with his dishes featuring the best from B.C.’s waters.
The competition, presented by Garland Canada and Fortis B.C., featured 13 chefs from across the province competing in black-box heats in front of a judging panel. Milheron’s trio of dishes — from an Albacore tuna and side-stripe shrimp roll to an olive-oil-poached halibut with Manila clams and a geoduck clam and swimming-scallops chowder — led the pack from the first day of competition and captured the judges’ votes for composition, taste and presentation. He receives a $5,000 cheque for his win.
Fanny Bay Oyster Bar’s chef Chris Andraza took home second place for his seafood creations.
“As a first-time participant at the B.C. Seafood Festival, I’m overwhelmed by the support for our industry by sponsors, partners and community,” says Milheron. “The Comox Valley Economic Development Society has done an amazing job of telling our story about what makes every chef proud to have such great access to seafood in our own backyard.”
